Asthma (Eosinophilic and Allergic)
What is Asthma?
At Pure Infusion Suites, we provide infusions for eosinophilic and allergic asthma.
Eosinophilic asthma (E-asthma)is a rare and difficult to control sub-type of asthma that results when the body produces too many eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. When this overproduction of eosinophils occur, it can trigger an autoimmune response that may cause inflammation and obstruction of the airway.
E-Asthma differs from allergic asthma, as it can occur in patients that do not have a tendency towards allergies.
Allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma and occurs only when a patient has allergies that trigger asthma. Asthma attacks triggered by allergic asthma will also usually be accompanied by other allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, and a runny nose.
However, both of these sub-types of asthma make it difficult for people to breathe, with 1 out of 13 people suffering from Asthma as a chronic illness.
Common Symptoms of Asthma Include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Shortness of breath
- Tightness in chest or pain
- Wheezing and coughing
- Difficulty sleeping from coughing or shortness of breath
How is Asthma Treated?
Asthma is treated differently based on the subtype that you are suffering from.
For those diagnosed with E-asthma, corticosteroids, fast-acting inhalers, and leukotriene modifiers are the first line of defense.
For those with allergic asthma, doctors will suggest nasal allergy medications such as steroids and antihistamines and salines rinses. If allergies cannot be managed solely by mitigating allergies, your doctor may try prescribing you inhaled steroids, bronchodilators.
However, if these medications do not works, your doctor may provide you a biologic infusions which will help tame your bodies allergic or immune response.
