Truxima
What is Truxima?
Truxima (Rituximab) is a medication used for the treatment of some forms of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and some vasculitides. Truxima is a type of monoclonal antibody that targets a specific protein (CD20) found on the surface of certain immune cells called B cells. Read more to learn about Truxima cost, Truxima infusion, side effects and uses.
How does Truxima work?
Truxima works by targeting CD20 protein antigens on B-cells, a type of white blood cell. When B cells find an infection or other foreign invader in your body, they trigger the release of antibodies meant to destroy germs and viruses.
Although B-cells play a vital role in your immune system, they can become infected and fight against your body. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) are blood cancers that alter B-Cells, causing them to fight against your own body.
By depleting CD20-positive B cells, Truxima helps to manage conditions such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and autoimmune disorders by reducing the number of pathogenic B cells in the body.
How is Truxima administered?
Truxima is administered via IV infusion. The specific dosing and duration of infusion can vary depending on the condition being treated and the patient’s individual status. Generally, the initial Truxima infusion may start at a slower rate to monitor for any potential infusion reactions, and subsequent infusions may be adjusted based on the patient’s tolerance.
