Truxima is a Rituxan biosimlar therapy that targets CD20 protein antigens on B-cells, a type of white blood cell.
When B cells find an infection or other foreign invader in your body, they trigger the release of antibodies meant to destroy germs and viruses.
Although B-cells play a vital role in your immune system, they can become infected and fight against your body. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) are blood cancers that alter B-Cells, causing them to fight against your own body.
It is unclear exactly how Rituxan works, but researchers believe that other white blood cells to attack infected B cells through recruiting macrophages or by causing antibody- dependent cellular toxicity.
While effective when used a longside other cancer treatments, Truxima is also shown to be effective in treating a variety of autoimmune diseases through limiting the amount of overactive B-cells that are attacking healthy tissues in the body.
