Prolia is prescribed to postmenopausal women suffering from osteoporosis that are at a high risk for fractures.
Prolia blocks a protein called receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa beta (RANK) that plays a role in the formation and activation of osteoclasts– bone cells that are responsible for breaking down bone in the body. By blocking RANK, Prolia prevents osteoclasts from forming and helps prevent further breakdown of bone in the body.
